Selena Gomez Reveals She Will Play Linda Ronstadt in the Biopic

Selena Gomez, 31, announced on Friday via Instagram Stories that she will play musical diva Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic.

“I have no words to describe my heart for this project… years of hoping this dream would become my reality,” she said in the caption of a screenshot of a Deadline piece that broke the news, which Showbiz 411 first reported on in the summer.

In another story, the Only Murders in the Building singer posted a black-and-white photo of Ronstadt with the remark, “Love your heart and soul for life and music.” Ronstadt, 77, shared the story on her own account and added pink hearts.

Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan, founded the music publisher Great Eastern Music, which also announced Gomez’s new role earlier this month.

Boylan and James Keach, who produced Ronstadt’s 2019 documentary The Sound of My Voice and the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, are set to produce the film. The title of the film and the other actors have not yet been revealed.

“The long-rumoured Linda Ronstadt biopic is now up and running.” The statement on the website’s “Projects” page states that “Selena Gomez is attached to play Linda. The two recently spent a few hours at Linda’s home discussing the project and getting to know each other.”

Ronstadt has earned eleven Grammys throughout her career, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 and a Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.

In 2019, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, which covered her nearly 50-year career, centered on her.
