Selena Gomez will play a fellow artist in a new biography.

Selena Gomez will play Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic based on the famed singer’s 2013 memoir Simple Dreams.

Today, the star and executive producer of The Only Murders in the Building posted a photo of the memoir on Instagram Stories, confirming months of internet speculation about the project.

John Boylan, Ronstadt’s longtime manager, and James Keach are co-producing the film, which is now in pre-production. The release date and additional casting have not been announced.

A speculative rumour regarding Gomez’s involvement in the biography surfaced in July of last year, but today’s Instagram Story confirmed the possibility.

Keach’s 2020 documentary Linda and the Mockingbirds follows Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, and a group of emerging singers as they travel to Banámichi, a hamlet in Sonora, Mexico, where Ronstadt’s grandparents were born.

Ronstadt and Gomez, who have had success in both music and acting, have Mexican roots, which Ronstadt discussed extensively in her 2013 memoir. The musician addressed the issue again in his 2022 book Feels Like Home: A Song for the Sonoran Borderlands.
