Serena Williams’ Ex-coach Welcomes Andy Roddick With Open Arms as the American Tennis Icon Embarks on a New Journey


Podcasts have become a rather popular medium for many to reach their fanbase. The realm of tennis too has many prominent podcasters, with many of them being icons of the court or veteran analysts. Andy Roddick, who holds one grand slam title and is a former number 1, also took up the task of creating his podcast. With this new undertaking, among many, he was welcomed by the former coach of Serena Williams.

Roddick is, perhaps, a bit late to the party. Other tennis analysts such as Rennae Stubbs, Patrick McEnroe, and more have had their tennis podcasts for a while now. It, however, seems the former player finally is up to the task.

The last few years saw many tennis legends start their podcasts, as they invite guests and discuss the current era of tennis. Aside from Stubbs and McEnroe, Jimmy Connors and his brother also have a podcast. Now, Roddick has joined the train. He announced it on his ‘X’ page and has named it “Served with Andy Roddick”. 

Rennae Stubbs, ecstatic at seeing Roddick step up to the same task as her, wrote, “@andreapetkovic look who joined the party!”. Jon Wertheim, a renowned tennis reporter, also talked about his podcast.

Wertheim said that Roddick needs office decor work, but his analytic skills could be better than his won serves, which were known for being monstrous. Reading his praise, Roddick said that Wertheim’s opinion was biased. Stubbs, nevertheless, reassured him by commenting, “Something tells me, you’ll be ok at this chatting thing.”

Podcasts have become a prominent presence in tennis. When the tennis world goes on breaks, analysts and legends of the sport continue to provide us with insights that keep the fans up to date on their favorite players.

Roddick is also a part of a big movement now. The former American player owes this idea to someone in the BBC team, as they were the reason behind the first tennis podcast in the world.

How BBC began the first tennis podcast

BBC Radio commentator David Law and television and radio host Catherine Ann Whitaker, who has worked for many television networks, were joined by Matt Roberts to kick off the first tennis podcast in 2012. They called it ‘The Tennis Podcast’, and it has continued into 2024. They have provided us with great insights over the years and will continue to do so in the coming season.

Roddick, who has appeared in several podcasts as a guest speaker, has an idea of how they proceed. He will aim to follow in their footsteps and provide quality insights on tennis players and tournaments. He is currently working with Tennis Channel and has already shown his prowess in this field. Now, he will be off-screen and aim to entertain his followers in a similar manner.
