Shakira and Sofia Vergara sent a wave of warmth and nostalgia across social media this week, with the Colombian singer sending a special greeting to her friend and fellow Latina powerhouse ahead of the release of Vergara’s new Netflix series, Griselda.
The Colombian actress’s new series Griselda, in which she plays Griselda Blanco, is predicted to be as successful on Netflix as Narcos was nine years ago.
The true story of the Colombian drug trafficker who oversaw cocaine shipments in Miami in the 1970s and 1980s attracted the actress.
As Vergara confesses, her role as boss of the Medellin cartel and tutor to Pablo Escobar came as a “surprise” after a career as a character actor in lighthearted sitcoms.
“You always think someone who is not an actress is going to arrive and be a little lost or out of tune, but she [Griselda] is super professional, very beautiful,” Vergara stated in an interview with writer Carlos Ochoa.
Before the premiere, singer Shakira, another well-known Colombian, wrote Vergara a lovely note.
“Hi Sofi, congratulations on your new show ‘Griselda’, I’ll be seeing you this Thursday, a kiss,” she said in a social media video clip.
In the Netflix thriller, Vergara will play the famed “Godmother of Cocaine” Griselda Blanco. The show follows Blanco’s climb from humble beginnings to become one of the most powerful and feared men in the Miami drug trade.
