Shakira Will Be Honored at a Billboard Music Ceremony as Latin Woman of the Year

The magazine said Shakira will get the first Latin Woman of the Year award from Billboard on Monday.

The Colombian star will get the award at the Mujeres Latinas en la Msica, or Latin Women in Music, event on May 7 in Miami, Florida.

Telemundo, a Spanish-language TV station, will show the party with all the stars.

Shakira has won awards for her work in the music business and for helping Latin women get more attention and opportunities through her career and charitable work.

“Shakira is the ultimate Woman In Music,” Leila Cobo, Billboard’s chief content officer for Latin/Espaol, said in a statement. “Thanks to her, Latin women all over the world were empowered to write and perform deeply personal music.”

“The Waka Waka singer created a movement all on her own, and continues to be more relevant than ever today, with grace, a deep tradition of giving back, and enormous talent,” the statement said.

According to Billboard and Telemundo, Shakira has won three Grammys, twelve Latin Grammys, seven Billboard Music awards, and a whopping forty-nine Billboard Latin Music awards.
