Sharon Stone disclosed that her breakthrough performance in Basic Instinct resulted in her losing custody of her son following a divorce.
She claimed in a podcast published on Wednesday that a family court judge once asked her four-year-old, “Do you know your mother creates sex films?” The Oscar-nominated actor stated on Table for Two to presenter Bruce Bozzi, “Like, this kind of system abuse—that I was considered what kind of father I was because I did that movie.” Stone stated that the same year she was hospitalized for heart difficulties after her role in Paul Verhoeven’s 1992 drama was “weaponized against her” in court. She exclaimed, “That broke my heart. It literally shattered my heart.”
Stone noted that bias was widespread among her peers, saying that she felt “humiliated” after hearing laughing at the 1993 Golden Globes when her name was announced as a nominee. “Does anyone know how difficult it was to play that role? Very heartbreaking! How terrifying?” she inquired. I auditioned for this position for nine months. They offered it to thirteen other individuals, and you are now laughing at me. “All I wanted to do was crawl into a hole.”
