Sheriff: Man took SUV from car dealership, vandalized offices inside of it


KNOX CO., Ky. (WYMT) – A North Carolina man is facing a host of charges after he took an SUV from a car dealership in Corbin and brought it back with minor damage.

Knox County Sheriff’s deputies received a call about the situation at approximately 11:40 p.m. Sunday night.

When deputies arrived at the dealership, they noticed the front entry glass door had been shattered with a metal garbage can lid and a cigarette ash tray.

Police discovered a 2024 GMC Denali sitting inside a service bay with all of the doors opened with the overhead garage door raised.

After police found Courtney Lowery, 44, he picked up a large metal pry bar and started toward police in a threatening manner.

When a deputy pulled out his service weapon, Lowery threw the bar down and ran out the back door.

Police found Lowery a short time later in a vacant field near the dealership.

Police learned that the man had taken the SUV from the dealership and had been driving it in the area before bringing it back with minor damage.

Several offices had also been vandalized which caused major damage.

Lowery was charged with burglary in the third degree, criminal mischief in the first degree, theft by unlawful taking or disposition/auto, fleeing or evading police in the second degree, terroristic threatening in the third degree, and public intoxication/controlled substance.

Lowery was taken to the Knox County Detention Center.
