A popular YouTuber known for his tech-focused content, Marques Keith Brownlee, releases scathing video review of the Fisker Ocean, labeling it as the worst car he has ever reviewed.
Today, we explore Marques Keith Brownlee’s latest video. Better known as MKBHD, the popular YouTuber with 18.5 million subscribers focuses on tech content. He recently got his hands on a used Fisker Ocean for his Auto Focus channel on YouTube. Over the weekend, he released a video titled, “This is the Worst Car I’ve Ever Reviewed,” which has sparked a lot of debate. The shocking title seems to be a strategy to attract clicks. The Fisker Ocean video review has garnered over 1.7 million views since its release.
It is one of the strangest video reviews we’ve come across. It begins with an unusual opening where the reviewer mentions that he obtained the test vehicle from a nearby Mitsubishi dealership because Fisker couldn’t provide him with a Fisker Ocean for review. Apparently, Fisker offered a press vehicle with the latest software. Furthermore, Fisker offered to update the vehicle he had with the most recent software version available. However, for some reason, MKBHD opted to test the Fisker Ocean with outdated software.
MKBHD’s Experience with the Fisker Ocean
It’s unclear what version of software the review vehicle had installed. Nevertheless, we know it isn’t the latest release candidate, which is software version 1.11. Fisker Ocean OS version 2.00 is expected later this month. As a tech reviewer, MKBHD probably wouldn’t review an iPhone or Android device running on an outdated version of software. So, why did he choose to review a Fisker Ocean with old software?
As a result, MKBHD’s experience with the Fisker Ocean was marred by a range of issues. He had problems with Bluetooth connectivity and the advanced driver assistance system. To compound matters, the tech reviewer didn’t take the time to familiarize himself with the vehicle beforehand. For example, we cringed as we watched him attempt to manually rotate the 17.1″ revolve screen.
MKBHD goes on to criticize the charge port on the Fisker Ocean not being the North American charging standard (NACS). However, Fisker announced last year that it will support NACS in Q1 2025. He complains about many design choices, including the lack of a glove box, but conveniently forgets to point out the Fisker Ocean has under-seat storage.
Regardless of MKBHD’s skepticism about the Fisker Ocean’s software, we’re excited to get Ocean OS 2.00 on our vehicle in the coming weeks. We also look forward to Marques revisiting the Fisker Ocean at a future time after such a scathing review. In the meantime, we’ll see more Fisker Ocean owners take to YouTube to rebut the controversial video review.
In Fisker’s Words…
Fisker felt the need to respond to the video review. They have posted the following statements across several platforms.
With all due respect to Marques and what he does for the tech community, almost all the issues that have been identified were confined to early-build vehicles, and we are working with early adopters to address issues they might have had. The Ocean was designed with regular over-the-air updates to improve numerous aspects of the vehicle and the ability to enable easy feature upgrades through the life of the vehicle in mind. Since its launch, engineering teams have closely monitored vehicle performance and customer feedback, and multiple over-the-air updates have been issued with software update 2.0 announced last week. We're here to help with any issues owners may encounter, please feel welcome to reach out to 1-844-FISKER1 for support. Marques, we’d still love the opportunity to get you in an updated Ocean. As we shared with your team previously when discussing getting a technician out to you and/or offering an updated press vehicle, any used early adopter Fisker picked up from a dealership would not have the latest software updates and thus doesn’t accurately represent the state of the Ocean today. We'd still love to provide an opportunity to test out an Ocean with fully updated software installed (the vehicle was designed as a truly connected vehicle for regular over-the-air updates that affect numerous aspects of the vehicle, in addition to features that can also be added over time. Engineering teams have been closely monitoring and have been implementing improvements, including from direct customer feedback).
