Shop small, local this Saturday in Carlsbad. Save on gross receipt taxes.

While most shoppers will take advantage of Black Friday, local merchants are taking the opportunity offered by Small Business Saturday to remind the public that spending locally helps boost economies and offers unique gift buying opportunities for the holidays.

Small Business Saturday is Saturday, Nov. 25.

“Small Business Saturday is a national movement which celebrates small businesses on Small Business Saturday and every day and to help communities thrive and stay vibrant. Our mission at Carlsbad MainStreet is to strengthen our district as the center of our community and to make Downtown Carlsbad a lively, vibrant place where people can shop, eat, and find entertainment on weekdays, weekends, and evenings,” said Carlsbad MainStreet Director Kat Davis.

“In Downtown Carlsbad, you are sure to find something special for everyone on your shopping list, from services, restaurants, boutiques and everything in between, Carlsbad MainStreet has you covered! We urge everyone to show support for our wonderful small businesses this holiday season.”

As a perk for shopping small and local the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department is suspending collection of gross receipts tax on sales of qualifying items at “certain, non-franchise small businesses with 10 employees or less.”

“Small business Saturday is a great opportunity for all of us to save a little money and support home-grown New Mexico businesses to grow our local economy,” said Taxation and Revenue Secretary Stephanie Schardin Clarke.
