Shoreham Boy, 10, Takes His Parents’ Car For Ride, Blows Tire: Police


SHOREHAM, NY — One Shoreham boy, 10, had the ride of his life Wednesday when he took his parents’ car out for a spin.

According to Suffolk County police, the boy took his parents Ford Expedition from a Briarcliffe Road home at about 4:15 p.m. on March 12.

The child drove for about 30 minutes until a tire blew, disabling the vehicle, which came to a stop on William Floyd Parkway, near Whiskey Road, in Shirley at about 4:45 p.m., police said.

There were no injuries, and the child was transported to an area hospital for evaluation, police said. The incident is under investigation, police added.

Local residents were abuzz as they reportedly saw the car barreling down Route 25A, and across a sod farm, police in close pursuit during the boy’s “joy ride.”
