According to Variety, showrunners of Showtimes Yellowjackets, Ashley Lyle (The Originals), Bart Nickerson (Dispatches from Elsewhere), and Jonathan Lisco (Animal Kingdom) give an update on the status of the third season of the series. The update for the thrilling survival series was given during a Q&A for SAG-AFTRA nomination committee members on Wednesday.
According to Variety, when the Writers Guild of America’s strike commenced it resulted in the stop of the production of the third season. Lyle now said, “We’re deep in the writing. Everybody came back so incredibly enthusiastic, raring to go, and creatively invigorated. We’re having so much fun and are very excited about it.”
Yellowjackets is a series with a dual timeline narrative that follows the story of a girl’s high school soccer team who survived a plane crash and then attempted to survive in the vast Ontario wilderness. The series follows the girls who deal with many hardships such as trying to serve as well as dealing with cannibalistic clans. On the other side of the coin, their adult counterparts 25 years later tell the gruesome truth about their survival.
The series cast includes Melanie Lynskey (Togetherness) as adult Shauna, Sophie Nelisse (Close) as teenage Shauna, Tawny Cypress (Brooklyn’s Finest) as adult Taissa, Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream) as teenage Taissa, Christina Ricci (Wednesday) as adult Misty, Samantha Hanratty (Shameless) as teenage Misty, Juliette Lewis (Cape Fear) as adult Natalie, Sophie Thatcher (Prospect) as teenage Natalie, Simone Kessel (Wellmania) as adult Lottie, Courtney Eaton (Gods of Egypt) as teenage Lottie, Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) as adult Van, Liv Hewson (Santa Clarita Diet) as teenage Van, and many others.
Currently, there is no date for when production will start for the third season. All current episodes of Yellowjacket are available to stream on Showtime and Paramount+.
