Founded by Alex and Monica Robinson in 2021, the Robinson Foundation supports charities in order to create a more socially equitable and just world through the lens of education, knowledge, health, and opportunity. Building on its goal to align its mission with the latest technological advancements, the foundation selected Shriners Children’s Shreveport as a beneficiary due to its use of advanced motion capture technology to analyze gait patterns and support the care of children with a variety of pediatric orthopedic conditions.
Thanks to a generous donation of $500,000 from the Robinson Foundation, the historic Shreveport facility was able to update its existing capture system to a state-of-the-art system comprising 14-cameras, including the latest Vicon Valkyre cameras. The cameras are capable of capturing 20 times more frames per second and offer a four-fold increase in image quality over the facility’s previous system. In addition, the facility has now become the first motion lab in the region to integrate a Theia markerless motion capture system to complement the new camera system. Markerless motion capture does not require the reflective ‘marker balls’ of current systems, and offers wide versatility for adapting to the needs of patients.
To further the high-tech environment of the motion analysis lab, the Robinson donation also allowed the facility to wrap the lab’s walls with vivid, spaceship themed graphics, a design theme featured in several areas of the facility. The equipment and graphics will be officially unveiled for the first time to representatives of the Robinson Foundation via ribbon-cutting during this special event.
