Siouxland cyclists make food donation run with annual ‘Cranksgiving’ tradition

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – For the sixth year, the Siouxland Cyclists celebrate ‘Cranksgiving’ in conjunction with the Food Bank of Siouxland.

Cranksgiving is an opportunity for the Siouxland Cyclists to do their part to fight hunger in Siouxland. About 20 club members saddled up their bikes and hit the trails to local stores to buy food that would be donated to the Food Bank of Siouxland.

This annual event benefits the community by helping the food bank meet demands around the holidays.

“November, December, January are kind of are busiest times of the year just with holidays, budgets are stretched a little more thin, so this year we are actually piloting a new program for holiday harvest boxes,” said Sidney Marks with the Food Bank of Siouxland.

The Holiday Harvest Boxes are going to be filled with traditional holiday side dishes like stuffing, and mashed potatoes and gravy.

The Siouxland Cyclists are excited to give back to the community.

“We do it to help the food bank stock up their store room for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the upcoming holidays,” said VP of Siouxland Cyclists, Pam Arendt.

The Siouxland Cyclists also donated money as part of the effort to help the food bank of Siouxland in their busiest time of year.
