Slow down and take in Art by Nature: Urban Creeks

As the holiday season approaches, it can be easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle. Take some time out for self-care over the next two weeks and visit the sixth annual Art by Nature exhibit at the Living Arts & Science Center (362 N. Martin Luther King Blvd). The exhibit closes on Friday, Nov. 24.

Three upcoming events offer unique ways to take in the 121 pieces of work from 90 local artists in the Art by Nature: Urban Creeks exhibit. The art highlights the importance of local waterways.

A separate, concurrent exhibition featuring works from scholars at The Redwood School, Community Montessori, and Fayette County Public Schools is also featured at The Living Arts & Science Center.

On Friday, Nov. 17, the exhibit will serve as one of the stops on the LexArts HOP from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. At 6 p.m., the first, second and third-place pieces will be announced.

On Saturday, Nov. 18, the Living Arts & Science Center will host their monthly Discovery Saturday event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A guided painting class will be offered during the event; pre-registration is required. A drop-in, make-and-take ornament-making activity will also be offered in the Glo Gallery.

Finally, the exhibit’s closing reception will be held on Friday, Nov. 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The People’s Choice award winner will be announced that evening.

Art by Nature highlights ways to improve and enhance the natural world through a gallery of native landscapes and plants highlighted by local artists. This year’s theme highlights Plant by Numbers plans for wet soils and streamside plantings. These plans make it easy for novices to design beautiful, low-maintenance, environmentally-friendly landscapes. The plans were created by EARTHeim Landscape Design and are available for free at lexingtonky.gov/PlantByNumbers.

Admission is free to the Living Arts and Science Center during all Art by Nature events.
