Cullowhee, N.C. – It’s March Madness in October as Southern Conference basketball invades the Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville on Wednesday (Oct. 25) for the 2023-24 SoCon Basketball Tip-Off Media Day. The league’s 10 head men’s basketball coaches and eight women’s basketball head coaches will be joined by student-athletes from each squad to start to preview the upcoming season.
Preseason predictions from both the league’s head coaches and voting media will be unveiled, as well as the coaches’ preseason all-conference teams.
Western Carolina will be represented at the event by head coaches Justin Gray and Kiley Hill. Men’s basketball student-athletes Tre Jackson and Vonterius Woolbright, as well as senior forward Audrey Meyers and sophomore guard Kehinde Obasuyi from the women’s basketball team will also be on hand for the preseason event.
The 2023-24 SoCon Women’s Basketball preview including interviews with the league’s head coaches and student-athletes will stream on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) beginning at 10 a.m. ahead of the Tip-Off Luncheon. WCU women’s basketball is slated to be featured on the program around 11:30 a.m.
Following the luncheon, the 2023-24 SoCon Men’s Basketball preview show will air on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) beginning with remarks from first-year SoCon Commissioner Michael Cross at 1:30 p.m. WCU men’s basketball will be the final team previewed around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Catamount fans can get their first look at both the 2023-24 WCU men’s and women’s basketball teams on Tuesday, Oct. 24, as Catamount Basketball presents: A Night in the ‘Whee, brought to you by Prospect Cullowhee. Ramsey Center doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the event starting at 7 p.m., on Ingles Court. Admission is free and though geared to WCU students, the event is open to the public.
Fans will get their first introduction to the Catamount men’s and women’s squads and interact with both coaching staffs. WCU students will have an opportunity to win great prizes throughout the night including a $500 Nike gift card and a few lucky fans will be able to compete alongside Catamount student-athletes on the court. While supplies last, free pizza is available for WCU students.
