Sofia Vergara Slams Host for Insulting Her Accent

During a recent interview, Sofía Vergara responded strongly to a host who mocked her Colombian accent.

The Modern Family star appeared on Tuesday’s episode of Pablo Motos’ talk programme El Hormiguero in Spain, where the host mocked Vergara’s pronunciation of the title of her previous comedy.

“How do you say Modern Family?” Motos, 58, teased Vergara in Spanish, causing her to pause in uncertainty.

Vergara, 51, immediately snapped back, “I say it wrong? Oh, because you speak better English than me? Ah.”

Motos continued to giggle awkwardly as the America’s Got Talent emcee moved away from him, apparently irritated.

“How many Emmy nominations do you have in the United States?” she asked the talking head, narrowing her eyes and speaking harshly. How often were you nominated for a Golden Globe by them?

Vergara has received four Emmys and four Golden Globe nominations for her portrayal of Gloria in the ABC mockumentary.

In contrast, El Hormiguero garnered one Emmy nomination in the non-scripted entertainment category in 2011, but did not win.

Vergara’s series of questions appeared to startle and embarrass the media icon, yet she managed to smile through it.

Vergara’s Colombian character on Modern Family, which aired for 11 seasons between 2009 and 2020, would mispronounce English words and phrases, adding humorous elements to the plot.

However, the Chef actress faced criticism for her television role, with many accusing her of misrepresenting Latina women.
