SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – South Bend high schools gathered on Monday to put on a free concert at the Morris Performing Arts Center.
More than 275 students and teachers from Adams, Clay, Riley, and Washington high schools performed. The show featured 20 ensembles, including bands, choirs, orchestras, and jazz.
The groups have received gold medals from the Indiana State School Music Association.
“I think it’s really important because there are so many parts of the community that are shown through the schools, and there are different programs that happen at different schools, like the Adams choir has a show choir, and the Clay choir has an all-women choir, and they all kind of do different things and do different things very well, so I think it’s awesome to see the community represented in that way,” said Catherine O’Neill, the orchestra director at Clay High School.
Tonight’s concert was a first-time event at the Morris and provided the opportunity for many of the students to perform on the stage for the first time.
