COLUMBIA — South Carolina women’s basketball is one of just three preseason top 10 teams that remain undefeated in 2023-24, and coach Dawn Staley’s team looks to keep rolling against Mississippi Valley State.
The No. 1 Gamecocks (4-0) host the Delta Devils (1-4) at Colonial Life Arena on Friday (1 p.m., SEC Network+) after an ugly yet dominant 78-38 win over South Dakota State. Starting guard Te-Hina Paopao is expected to play after missing Thursday’s game with an undisclosed injury, though the team will still be without freshman guard Tessa Johnson with a sprained ankle.
Mississippi Valley State has already faced two ranked opponents this season, losing 109-47 to No. 5 LSU and 104-45 to No. 8 Utah. South Carolina has scored at least 100 points in three of its four games and has not lost a home game since Dec. 3, 2020. Friday will be the first-ever meeting between the programs.
