IOWA CITY — South Side Street Foods, a food truck that served savory and sweet fry bread, has closed less than two years after starting.
Owner Daniel Velasquez, who started the business in April 2022 after managing multiple Chipotle locations, served the Navajo tradition with a combination of Chicano and Indigenous Yaqui influences from the southwestern United States.
Velasquez and his wife have experienced multiple, significant losses in the family over the past two years.
“These losses have brought both emotional and financial challenges, leading me to the difficult decision to shut down the food truck until I am in a better position to reopen, which may take several years due to the costs of licenses and other expenses,” he said Saturday on social media. “I am immensely grateful for the memories and support we have received since 2022.”
His social media pages will now be dedicated to promoting other food trucks and restaurants he visits.
