South Williamson Food City set to open

The new Food City in South Williamson will be opening Dec. 6.

According to a statement from the company, the 51,330-square-foot supermarket replaces the original location, which was torn down earlier this year to make way for the construction of the new store.

“We’re proud to have served the residents of Pike County for more than 60 years and we’re excited to provide our loyal customers with a much needed and well-deserved new state-of-the-art Food City,” said Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.

The statement said the location includes a full-service baker and deli, offering fresh baked good, deli meats, cheeses and salads, an Asian Wok, hot food bar, fresh food bar featuring a variety of soup and salad options, hickory wood smoker, brick oven pizza oven, catering services, fresh sushi and a fireplace seating area.

Full-service meat and seafood departments, the statement said, will offer pre-marinated/seasoned oven ready products, a complete selection of meats, Certified Angus Beef and in-house butchers to hand cut steaks and fresh meat to order.

Expanded grocery and produce departments will feature a complete selection of specialty, gourmet and vegan items, the statement said.

The Food City Floral Boutique, which will be staffed seven days a week, will offer a full assortment of fresh-cut floral arrangements, bouquets and gift items.

The statement said there will be six check-out lanes and seven self check-outs.

Also included will be curbside pickup, Starbucks Cafe and Food City Pharmacy, equipped with an outside pick-up window.

“We’re excited about the new store and the additional services and conveniences it will provide our loyal customers.  We would like to thank everyone for their patience during the construction process. I think they will agree that the new store was well worth the wait,” said Store Manager Josh Blevins.

The statement said several award-winning energy saving concepts are also included, ranging from energy efficient glass cooler doors, parking lot lights and refrigeration systems to motion sensors and 100 percent LED lighting.

“We’re extremely proud of our dedicated team of associates who continued working at our surrounding eastern Kentucky stores during the construction process,” said Smith. “Our customers will find the same smiling faces, top quality products and low prices they have come to expect from Food City, along with expanded variety/selection and some great new services and conveniences.”
