Southern Sierra Pops will perform its summer concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at Shepherd of the Hills Church, 24300 Bear Valley Road.

The emphasis is on fun with selections like “Born to Be Wild,” “Hey Jude” and a few more toe-tappers, according a concert announcement. Christina Scrivner will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” John Phillip Sousa might make an appearance. The conductor, Jim Reddish, usually finds a way to put excitement in the mundane. And there may also be a surprise or two.

“Our gracious hosts from SOTH help us provide a relaxed atmosphere to spend an afternoon in air-conditioned comfort, sitting back and listening to some good music,” the announcement said.
