SOUTHINGTON, CT — For the second time in as many months, the Southington High School athletics department is mourning the loss of a beloved coach.
“The BKF Family and Football community has suffered a terrible loss today,” reads a statement on the team’s “X” (formerly Twitter) page. “Coach Chuck was a great coach, leader, mentor, and most of all great person. We will miss him terribly. Please keep the Drury family in your thoughts and prayers.”
According to the Courant, Drury, 77, retired from being head coach in 2011 at Pomperaug High School in Southbury, a regional school district that also serves Middlebury.
He went on to be an assistant on his son Mike Drury’s staff at Southington High School, helping to lead that program into becoming a state high school football powerhouse, winning state titles in 2013 and 2014.
SHS lost in the state CIAC playoffs last December, marking an end to the Drury dynasty.
