Sports and entertainment complex moves ahead

Plans call for the sports and entertainment complex development to break ground later this year. (CITY OF ORLANDO)

The Orlando Magic’s sports and entertainment complex, located across the street from the Kia Center, was approved on first reading by the City Council at its Feb. 19 meeting. The Municipal Planning Board recommended approval to the Council, and the next step will be a second reading and public hearing on March 11.

The mixed-use plan would sit on 8.43 acres of land and currently includes a 261-room hotel, 781 multifamily dwelling units, 551,000 square feet of retail and meeting space, and a 1,800-space parking garage.
