Tigers tandem drop opener

HERSHEY – Hollidaysburg freshman Crosby Denis and senior Megan Ferris lost in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A Girls Doubles Tennis Championships on Friday at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Denis and Ferris fell to Mia Matriccino and Evelyn Mejia of Spring-Ford, 6-1, 6-0.

In Class 2A doubles action, Central’s Julia Ritchey and Brooklyn Coppersmith lost to Loyalsock’s Anna Hall and Caroline Crawford, 6-2, 6-2, and Bedford’s Sadie Livengood and Kasey Shuke fell to Lower Moreland’s Hannah Kideckel and Rebecca Kideckel, 6-0, 6-1.

In Class 2A singles play, Central Cambria’s Marley Ratchford lost to Hughesville’s Sarah Buck, 6-0, 6-4, and Chestnut Ridge’s Haley Hundley lost to Merion Mercy’s Sofia Berestetska, 6-1, 6-1.

Central Mountain freshman Lindsay Addison beat Conestoga’s Isabelle Emmanuel in the first round, 6-2, 6-2, and New Oxford’s Anya Rosenbach, 6-3, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. She will face Council Rock South’s Dasha Chichkina at 8 a.m. today in the semifinals with the finals at 1 p.m.

Mount men will host title game

CRESSON — The Mount Aloysius men’s soccer team will host Alfred State on Saturday at 2 p.m. for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship.

The top-seeded Mounties advanced to the game with a 2-0 victory over Pitt-Greensburg this past Wednesday.

Mount Aloysius used goals by Louis Bez and Martin Donner to earn the win.

In the other semifinal, No. 3 Alfred State topped No. 2 Penn State Behrend, 2-1.

The winner of Saturday’s game earns the AMCC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Mounties defeated the Pioneers in their first meeting, this season, 2-1.

Mount Aloysius has won the last two AMCC tourney titles.
