Girls hoops set for week 2

NW girls fall to Twin Lakes
Northwestern’s girls basketball team fell to defending Class 3A regional champion Twin Lakes 66-32 in the season opener for both squads on Saturday at Northwestern. Twin Lakes took a 16-9 advantage after a quarter, then was in control up 41-17 at the half.
Anna Bishir scored 20 points to lead Northwestern and Berkley Wray added six. Addie Bowsman led the Indians with 29 points and eight assists. Olivia Nickerson added 23 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals.
Hunt leads HS bowlers
Kokomo’s Carter Hunt had the highest series again on Friday with games of 213 and 207 for a 420 series in high school bowling at Heritage Lanes.
Kokomo’s Nathan Lay had games of 226 and 188 for a 414 series. Western’s Peter Weber (169 and 219) had a 388 series. Western’s Caleb Burk (224 and 157) had a 381 series. Kokomo’s Kaiden Johnson (171 and 144) had a 315 series. Eastern’s Sam Torivo had a 205 game.
Top JV scores came from Western’s Aaron Shock (198), Eastern’s Jase Cloum (175), Western’s Austin Burton (174) and Eastern’s Evan Lapp (169).
For the girls, Western’s Marianna Hunt (192 and 166) rolled a 358 series. Kokomo’s Ashlynn Slabaugh (163 and 164) had a 327 series. Taylor’s Lillian Phillips had two 161 games for a 322 series. Western’s Miranda Smith (137 and 148) had a 285 series. Western’s Kiley Binkerd (149 and 131) had a 280 series. Western’s Harlee Reel (139 and 137) had a 276 series. Western’s Erin Goley had a 154 game. Western’s Allison Boyle had a JV game of 147.
Kokomo defeated the Western girls and the Western boys defeated Tri-Central. Eastern defeated Taylor.
