ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) – The St. Louis County Police Department’s basketball team will have its hands full this Thursday when it squares off in a charity match against St. Louis’ nationally ranked youth wheelchair basketball team the Saint Louis Rolling Rams.

The game raises money for the Rolling Rams program to help off-set team travel costs and wheelchair maintenance. The Rams travel throughout the Midwest competing against other youth wheelchair teams.

This is the fifth annual game between the two teams, with the Rams victorious in each contest. Parent volunteer Rob Niemira says the Rams are just that good. “The Rams are just better at controlling their chairs and they are so much faster. It’s What they do!”

Niemira’s son Liam, has Spinal Bifida and has been playing wheelchair basketball since the age of two. “For Liam, this basketball team means freedom. It’s a shot at normalcy.” Says Niemira. “If this team doesn’t succeed, none of these kids can play basketball at all. It’s over. Unfortunately, we can’t do this alone. That’s why we turn to the community and ask for their help and generosity and they always come through and we thank them.”

The game will take place this Thursday, October 26th at 6:30 p.m. The location is St. John Vianney High School located at 1311 South Kirkwood Road. Admission is $4 per person or $10 a family. All proceeds go to the Saint Louis Rolling Rams Basketball team.
