Stamford’s Project Music Wins News 12 CT Holiday Contest

STAMFORD, CT — Project Music, a youth music program based in Stamford, emerged victorious in News 12 CT’s Sounds of the Season contest.

The contest celebrates and recognizes outstanding musical contributions from local artists. Project Music’s entry captured the audience’s hearts, and showcased not only its students’ musical talent but also exemplifies the spirit of the holiday season.

The winning video, a fun and joyful version of “Jingle Bells,” with most of the young musicians having only played their instruments for two months, will be featured on the morning newscast on Monday, Nov. 27, from 5 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

“We are overjoyed and honored to be chosen as the winner of the News 12 CT Sounds of the Season Contest. This recognition is a testament to the dedication and talent of our young musicians. We are excited to share our music with the community and bring a touch of joy to the holiday season,” said Project Music Executive Director Gabrielle Molina in a news release.

The mission of Project Music “is to use the transformative power of music to effect positive social change for the students most in need of access, opportunity and inspiration,”the organization’s website says.

Project Music was founded in July 2014 by music educators Garrett Mendez, Ian Taylor and board members Joyce DiCamillo, Christel Truglia and Mort Lowenthal.

The program takes inspiration from a previous iteration of Project Music which was founded by Stamford music teacher and then state Sen. Anthony Truglia in 1967, according to Project Music’s website.
