State Environmental Conservation Police arrest Griswold man for armed robbery


HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s (DEEP) State Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police arrested a man involved in an armed robbery at the Quinebaug River State Boat Launch off Butts Bridge Road in the Town of Canterbury.

On Oct. 13 around 2 p.m., police arrested Davontae Fontaine, 21, of Griswold, based on an arrest warrant from an incident that happened on May 17.

On the evening of May 17, police responded to the area that received reports of an armed robbery. Prior to the officer’s arrival, the Fontaine fled the scene.

Through an investigation, it was determined that Fontaine contacted the victim prior to the robbery to arrange to meet at the boat launch.

When they met at the boat launch, Fontaine was in possession of a deadly instrument that he used to assault the victim and stole $14 in cash from the victim.

Fontaine then stole the victim’s cell phone, destroyed it, and fled the scene.

Fontaine was charged with the following: Robbery, 1st Degree, Assault, 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief, 3rd Degree, Larceny, 6th Degree, and Breach of Peace.

He was released on a $25,000 surety bond to the custody of the Connecticut State Police Troop E for separate charges.

Fontaine was arraigned on Oct. 16 at Danielson Superior Court (GA-11).
