State leaders appoint new executive director of North Dakota Housing Finance Agency

BISMARCK — The North Dakota Industrial Commission on Monday, June 2, selected Brandon Dettlaff to lead the state Housing Finance Agency, the arm of the state government in charge of administering affordable housing programs and initiatives.

“Brandon has an excellent understanding of North Dakota’s affordable housing needs and has provided strong leadership as the head of North Dakota Housing Finance Agency’s homeownership division,” said commission members in a release.

The commissioners are Gov. Kelly Armstrong, Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring and Attorney General Drew Wrigley.

“His extensive experience with the agency’s housing programs and strong stakeholder relationships in the housing and home mortgage industries position him well to lead the agency and continue the successful execution of critical programs that provide access to safe, affordable housing for our citizens,” they continued.

Dettlaff began his career with the Housing Finance Agency in 2007, most recently serving as its homeownership director.

“I am grateful to the members of the Industrial Commission for putting their trust in me to lead the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency,” Dettlaff said in the release. “And, I would like to thank all my colleagues at the agency for their commitment to our mission of addressing affordable housing needs, working towards ensuring every North Dakotan has a safe and affordable place to call home.”

Dettlaff replaces Dave Flohr, who worked with the agency for 41 years and will retire June 13, when Dettlaff will take his place.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
