Stephen King, famed author, and avid pop culture observer, has voiced disinterest in HBO’s Succession.
In reaction to a New York Times piece doubting the show’s value, King rushed to Twitter and snidely quipped, “NYTimes headline: SUCCESSION is over. Why did we care? Here’s a newsflash for you: A lot of us didn’t.”
While Stephen King is known for his positive take on different TV episodes and movies, his uncommon negative reaction to Succession sticks out.
King has previously expressed interest in shows such as The Wire and has lately expressed interest in the horror show From. Conversely, Succession has already been hailed by critics and has a devoted fan base among fans of prestige television.
The final episode of Succession aired in the last week of May, addressing who will inherit Waystar Royco.
The finale of the hit HBO series received 2.9 million views. This is the show’s largest audience, a 5% increase from the previous record of 2.75 million viewers set during season 4 episode 6 in April.
