Stephenson-Moore Tabbed All-CAA Preseason Second Team; Men’s Basketball Picked Ninth in Preseason Poll – Stony Brook University Athletics


RICHMOND, Va. – Tyler Stephenson-Moore has been selected to the 2023-24 CAA All-Preseason Second Team and Stony Brook men’s basketball was tabbed to finish ninth in the CAA Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll.

Stephenson-Moore claimed All-CAA Third Team honors after leading the team in scoring average (14.3 ppg) and field goals made (152) and finishing second on the squad in rebounding (4.3 rpg), assists (2.2 apg) and steals (0.9 spg) in 2022-23.

Returning for his fifth year, and the Seawolves’ second in the CAA, Stephenson-Moore will aim to build upon a strong senior season that saw him finish 10th in the league in scoring and field goal percentage (.403), as well as second in free throw percentage (.839). A workhorse, Stephenson-Moore played in 30 games for Stony Brook and led the conference in minutes per game.

A season ago, Stephenson-Moore posted career-best marks in virtually every statistical category, including scoring, field goals made, three-point field goals made, free throws made, rebounding, assists and steals. The Jamaica, N.Y. native registered double-digit scoring outputs in 24 of his 30 games played, including six contests with 20 or more points.

As a unit, Stony Brook was voted to finish ninth in year two in the CAA, as voted on by the league’s 14 head coaches. The Seawolves finished 10th a season ago and return two of its top three scorers from last season, Stephenson-Moore and Keenan Fitzmorris

Stony Brook also looks forward to contributions from returners Aaron Clarke, Jared Frey, Dean Noll and Sabry Philip, who combined to appear in just four contests in 2022-23. Transfers Chris Maidoh and Andre Snoddy, along with returner Toby Onyekonwu, are expected to provide valuable minutes for the Seawolves in 2023-24.

The Seawolves embark on the 2023-24 season on Tuesday, November 7 at St. John’s University. Tip-off between the Seawolves and Red Storm is scheduled for 7 p.m. on FS1. Stony Brook plays its first of 16 home contest inside Island Federal Arena on Friday, November 10 against St. Joseph’s (LI). Year two of CAA action officially begins on Thursday, January 4 at Northeastern.
