Red is the colour of the season – we told you that months ago – but it can be quite a tricky hue to style. Enter my less-daunting solution: red cardigans. Not as intimidating as a full rouge moment, especially if you’re wardrobe isn’t used to that much colour, red cardigans offer an easier way into the trend. One which is far more wearable arguably, too.
Ushered in by fashion’s favourite celebrities (Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, I’m looking at you), knitted red button downs are having a real moment – and it makes so much sense. Knitwear is the backbone of any good autumn/winter ensemble (literally all I wear on rotation are turtlenecks, sweater vests and – shock horror – cardigans), so why not make them red?

While the usual grey, navy, black and brown tones tend to be a safe zone for a lot of brands this time of year, you’d need to be living under a rock not to have noticed everyone’s push for red. GANNI, Reformation, ba&sh and Ralph Lauren among them.
If you still have a few reservations about how to style a red cardigan (what with them being so bold and all), I’m here to remind you that it’s really no different nor more difficult than any other shade. Take Hadid’s lead and opt for mom jeans, a red T-shirt and some loafers. Or, be inspired by Jenner’s all-black wide-leg trousers look with the pop of colour draped over her shoulders. Both chefs kiss.
