The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and SAG-AFTRA will continue to negotiate on Friday, October 6, and Monday, October 9. This was announced in a joint statement on Wednesday by the union and the top studios and streamers in the business.
Since Monday, October 2, the two sides have been meeting every day to try to come to an understanding on a new contract.
As of July 11, 2023, SAG-AFTRA members have been on strike because their contract ended on June 30, 2023.
In the new contract, the union wants a lot of important things, such as bigger wages, better residuals, and more streaming pay.
The AMPTP has said it is ready to talk about all of the union’s requests, but it needs more time to come to a decision.
The fact that talks are still going on is a good sign because it means that both sides are making progress.
Still, it’s not clear when the new deal will be signed. For now, members of SAG-AFTRA will keep going on strike.
The SAG-AFTRA strike is making the entertainment business very different. Because of the strike, a lot of movies and TV shows have been pushed back or canceled. Millions of dollars in lost pay for SAG-AFTRA members are also due to the strike.
