Strong Third Quarter Leads Bonnies Women’s Basketball to Victory Over Loyola (MD)


BALTIMORE, MD — The St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team got back in the win column Saturday afternoon with a 55-51 road victory over Loyola Maryland. A strong third quarter helped the Brown and White to their second win of the season. 
 
Nadechka Laccen led the way for Bonnies (2-4) with 17 points in her first game since suffering an injury in the opener Nov. 8. vs. Niagara. Isabellah Middleton and Dani Haskell both hit double figures, scoring 13 and 12 points respectively. 

The Bonnies were able to score their first road win of the year by taking down a Greyhounds squad that entered the day winners of three of their first four games on the season. 
 
Bona finished the first quarter up 16-10 with Claire Cody putting away a layup off a steal from Payton Fields
 
The Bonnies offense went cold to start the second quarter, not scoring until six and a half minutes in when Laccen made a jumper off a steal from Kirah Dandridge, her first of three on the day. St. Bonaventure went into the intermission down by four, 30-26. 
 
Dandridge had four rebounds and four assists in addition to her three steals. 
 
Bonaventure bounced back in the third, outscoring the Greyhounds 19-9. The Bonnies secured their first lead of the quarter when Tianna Johnson found Middleton who drained the three for a 31-30 lead. Bona’s pulled ahead by as much as eight in the third quarter thanks to a trey from Cody. 
 
The Bonnies opened the fourth with a 6-2 run, going up by 10 halfway through the period as Laccen recorded a steal and finished at the other end herself. Loyola clawed their way back within two with a minute and a half to play as their leading scorer, Laura Salmeron hit a three.
 
The Brown and White capitalized on Loyola mistakes, leading in points off turnovers, 19-4.  
 
Laccen grabbed a key rebound with 17 seconds to play after the Greyhounds failed to convert on a Bona turnover. Laccen was fouled and connected on both free throws to give the Bonnies a two-possession lead as time winded down. 
 
Laccen made two more from the charity stripe as the Bonnies secured their second win of the season, 55-51 over Loyola (MD). 
 
St. Bonaventure is back at the Reilly Center on Nov. 30 as they take on Little Three rival Canisius. 
 
GAME NOTES

  • The Bonnies went 12-15 at the line with Haskell going a perfect 3-3.
  • Bona’s finished the day shooting 38% from the floor (19-50) while Loyola shot 39% (21-54). 
  • Middleton went 5-12 (42%) from the floor and 2-4 from three. 
  • Laccen’s 17 points are the second-highest in her career. She posted 22 at Kent State and 17 against Bellarmine in the 2022-23 season.
