The teams competed in a variety of different art mediums.

Students from Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School (POBJFKHS) and Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School (POBMS) had an impressive showing at the New York State Art Teachers Association’s Olympics of Visual Arts competition earlier this April, securing six top awards while earning praise for their outstanding behavior and sportsmanship.

The students took home high honors in several categories, including:

1st Place, Middle School Architecture
1st Place, Elementary Drawing
1st Place, High School Sculpture
3rd Place, Elementary Graphics
3rd Place, High School Graphics

Additionally, the POBJFKHS’ sculpture team won the “On-Demand Challenge Best in Show” award out of 220 competing teams.

Beyond their competitive success, the students were repeatedly commended by judges, venue staff, and fellow competitors for their polite, respectful, and kind demeanor. “It’s a true testament to the work we have been doing with our students in the classroom when they can represent our schools in such a positive light outside the classroom,” said art teacher Ms. Kelly Verdi.
