(CNN/WSAW) – A new study says adopting healthy lifestyle behaviors could reduce your risk of irritable bowel syndrome.
The disorder affects up to one in 10 people worldwide. That is according to a study from The Journal Gut. Here is how you can try to lower your risk for symptoms.
middle-aged adults and older who were physically active, ate a quality diet, slept well, and didn’t smoke, dropped their chances by up to 42% of developing IBS. Those living with it experience abdominal pain, bloating and abnormal bowel habits.
According to UW School of Medicine and Public Health, there is no test for IBS, and your doctor has to diagnose the condition based on your symptoms and a physical exam. Researchers say the cause of the condition is not fully understood. Previous studies have linked individual unhealthy lifestyle factors with a heightened risk of IBS.
