Subaru to Reveal Next-Generation 2026 Outback at New York Auto Show

  • Subaru will livestream the 2026 Outback debut from the New York Auto Show on April 16.

  • Spy images hint at a crossover-style redesign, departing from the model’s wagon heritage.

  • Outback Wilderness off-road trim will be unveiled alongside the standard 2026 Outback variant.

Subaru will unveil the 2026 Outback and its off-road variant, the Outback Wilderness, during a global live stream at the 2025 New York International Auto Show on April 16. The stream will begin at 11:50 a.m. Eastern Time on Subaru.com.

The next-generation Outback marks 30 years of production and continues Subaru’s evolution of its long-standing all-wheel-drive platform. Both the standard and Wilderness variants will debut at the same event, offering a first look at Subaru’s design and engineering direction for its flagship utility vehicle.

While Subaru has not released official design images or specifications ahead of the debut, spy photographs circulating online suggest a change in styling. The new Outback appears to further embrace crossover design cues, moving away from the traditional wagon format the model has historically maintained. This “unfortunate” development may be the result of consumer trends favouring crossover SUVs over wagons.

The Outback remains one of Subaru’s most recognized models in Canada and the U.S., offering a combination of all-weather capability and family utility. The Wilderness trim, introduced in recent years, targets buyers looking for increased ground clearance and off-road enhancements.

Further information, including powertrain details, pricing, and availability, is expected to follow the public reveal on April 16.
