MOUNT CRAWFORD — The town of Mount Crawford will hold its second Summerfest on May 31 at the Mount Crawford Ruritan Park with games, fun, and more.
The first Summerfest was held last year, said Libby Clark, town manager and treasurer.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 31. So far, the entertainment has not been nailed down, but there will be music. The Mount Crawford United Methodist Church will be one of the food vendors. The town will accept applications for vendors and food trucks up until May 27, Clark said.
Last year’s Summerfest brought in 45 vendors, not including the food trucks and the fire department.
Clark said the most exciting part of the event was bringing people together.
“Having the community come together to get the family out to kick off summer,” Clark said. “And what a great place to do it.”
Summerfest was created as an offshoot of Fallfest. Clark credited Council Member Toni Ray with coming up with Fallfest to revive the town’s Old-Fashioned Days.
“But it got rained out twice,” Clark said of Fallfest. The 22 vendors she had assembled for the event were disappointed.
“So I immediately started planning for a spring event,” Clark said. “We went ahead and planned it, and it doubled in size from what he had planned in the fall. I’m very pleased.”
She said the tough part in organizing the event was getting the word out and making sure that the same types of vendors were not placed too close together. Plus, there was a lot of legwork and paperwork.
But once everything is set up, things move quickly, Clark said.
“[The fun part of the event is] watching it grow in size, in the number of vendors, and the multitude of types of crafts and wares that everybody had. It’s just incredible to see the different things that people handcraft,” Clark said.
