Suspect in Pop Smoke Murder Pleads Guilty, Is Sentenced

In 2020, one of the four men accused of killing rapper Pop Smoke during a botched robbery at a Hollywood Hills mansion rental pleaded guilty to his part in the ambush. The Associated Press says that a 20-year-old man pleaded guilty to manslaughter by choice. When he committed the murder, he was 17 years old.. He also admitted to home invasion robbery in Inglewood juvenile court and will spend four years and two months in a juvenile facility. His identity will not be made public because he was a minor during the crime. Pop Smoke, whose real name was Bashar Barakah Jackson, was gunned down in his Los Angeles apartment on February 19, 2020. He posted packages on social media that clearly showed the home address hours before the shooting. A friend of someone in the house called 911 to say that there were armed people in the house. He was in the shower when two thieves in masks came up to him. Some shots from outside the house were caught on video. A 15-year-old assailant pistol-whipped the rapper and fired three shots into his back during the struggle. Tragically, his wounds proved fatal.

A detective testified that the robbers made off with the rapper’s diamond-studded Rolex watch and later sold it for $2,000. The 20-year-old was charged alongside Corey Walker, 19, and Keandre Rodgers, 18.

Pop Smoke came out of nowhere in 2018 with the song “Welcome to the Party.” When Nicki Minaj put a verse on a remix, he got more attention.

He was praised for his unique sound, which was almost the same as 50 Cent’s but rougher and more raspy. After he died, his first album came out. 50 and the young rapper were close before 50 died, and the Power creator didn’t know what to say when 50 died. But 50 kept talking about his death until he felt that justice had been done.
