Suspect shoots at, steals car from man sleeping in car in SE Portland


PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A man was hurt during a shooting and car theft in southeast Portland early Saturday, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Around 4:30 a.m., police responded to reports of gunfire and found a victim nearby at a Plaid Pantry on Southeast 42nd Avenue and Southeast Woodstock Boulevard.

Three men are wanted after they were caught on camera pickpocketing an elderly man in northeast Portland, and police believe there may be more victims.

The victim told officers that he had been sleeping in a car that was “not his” when the suspect approached him, according to a PPB spokesperson.

The victim said the suspect fired a shot that sprayed him with glass shards, and then the suspect stole the car.

Paramedics treated the victim for cuts from shattered car glass. He was not hit by the gunfire.

Police said they had not arrested anyone as of Saturday afternoon, and are continuing to investigate.
