This month, the Black Mountain Center for the Arts (BMCA) and Bounty & Soul are joining forces to present “Sustenance,” a visual art group show in the Upper Gallery at BMCA. This collaborative exhibit and fundraiser will showcase the work of artists and creators of all levels, ages, and backgrounds, inviting them to explore the theme of sustenance in its many forms.
Art and food are essential forms of sustenance, nourishing both the creator and the consumer. This exhibition encouraged artists to interpret sustenance broadly, whether as nourishment for the body, mind, or soul, or as the act of maintaining life and existence. “Sustenance” will also celebrate the missions of both presenting organizations: Bounty & Soul, which is dedicated to “creating communities where everyone has the right and opportunity to eat well, be nourished, and thrive,” and BMCA, whose mission is to “bring arts to the people and people to the arts.”
“Partnering with Bounty & Soul on this exhibit is a natural fit,” shared BMCA Executive Director Lori Cozzi. “Both art and food are essential to our well-being, and through ‘Sustenance,’ we hope to inspire reflection on what truly nourishes us as individuals and as a community.”
“Sustenance” will be on display and free and open to the public from April 4-25. The exhibit kicks off with a free opening reception on Friday, April 4 from 5-6:30 p.m. Attendees will have a chance to meet the artists, mingle with representatives from both collaborating organizations, and enjoy complimentary refreshments. This reception will be a great opportunity to come together to celebrate the connection between art, food, and community. Sales from “Sustenance” will benefit both BMCA and Bounty & Soul.
“Sustenance” will be on display in the Upper Gallery at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts, which is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.. The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is located at 225 West State Street. Don’t miss this inspiring and meaningful showcase of creative expression and community support.
