MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The whiz of a swinging racquet and the sound of a “smash” at the net begins this weekend at the newly expanded Leftwich Tennis Center.
After about a two-year, $30 million expansion, the center at the corner of Southern Avenue and Goodlett Road will hold a ribbon cutting on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Leftwich, now with 24 outdoor courts and 12 indoor courts, is ready to open to the public for reservations.
It’s also the home court for the University of Memphis men’s and women’s tennis program.
Leftwich remains under the umbrella of the City of Memphis Parks division and will be managed by Tennis Memphis Inc., a non-profit youth development organization.
The center’s amenities now qualifies it as one of largest tennis centers in the region, and officials expect it to be the host for many levels of tournaments, including NCAA ones, in the future.
The ribbon cutting will include a free play-date opportunity, snacks, music and more features.
