14:22: Syracuse leads 13-8 at the first stoppage. The increase in tempo on offense has been noticeable. Orange seem content to hoist the first good shot and they’re coming quickly. Benny Williams has looked very nice and made a couple of jumpers over smaller defenders. A slide fade on them but very in control. Seems like a shot he should be able to get throughout the year.
18:40: First bucket of the preseason game goes to Syracuse on a lob to Naheem McCloud. Orange opening in man-to-man defense. Adrian Autry era has arrived.
Starters for Syracuse are JJ Starling, Justin Taylor, Chris Bell, Benny Williams C and Naheem McLeod.
A couple of notes from out Mike Waters. Syracuse point guard Judah Mintz and center Mounir Hima are currently in sweats and won’t be playing. Stay tuned. As soon as they hear something, you’ll hear something.
The preseason game against Daemen will be the first game against an opponent for new men’s basketball coach Adrian Autry. It is expected to be the first game in an SU uniform for transfers JJ Starling, Naheem McLeod and Kyle Cuffe Jr. A fourth newcomer, Chance Westry, will not play due to injury.
Daemen has played one exhibition game this season, losing a close game against Buffalo, 71-67. The Wildcats went 20-8 last year at the Division II level, losing in the championship game of the East Coast Conference. They played a pair of exhibitions before last season, losing to Penn and Buffalo by more than 29 points.
Daemen’s last preseason game against Syracuse came in the 2019-20 season, when the Orange earned a 90-71 victory.
