TAM AdEx: Television ad volumes in News genre show resilience with 7% and 1% growth in Q2 and Q3 2023

AdEx India, a division of TAM Media Research, has released its Quarterly Report (Jul-Sept’23) on advertising in the news genre. During this period, ad volumes in the News Genre saw a 1% rise in Jul-Sept’23 compared to Jan-Mar’23.

During Jan-Jun’23, ‘Hindi News’ emerged as the leading subgenre for advertising, capturing a 17% share of ad volumes.

During Jul-Sept’23, ‘LIC of India’ entered the top 10 advertisers list and secured the 7th position, a significant jump from its 11th position in Apr-Jun’23. Meanwhile, ‘Lalithaa Jewellery’ claimed the leading position as the top brand in the News Genre.

Television Ad Volumes in News Genre during Jul-Sept’23 and Apr-Jun’23 Vs Jan-Mar’23

Television ad volumes in the News genre witnessed growth in both Apr-Jun ’23 and Jul-Sep ’23 by 7% and 1%, respectively, compared to Jan-Mar ’23. However, the News genre experienced a decline in ad volumes in Jul-Sep ’23 by 7% compared to the same period in the previous year (Jul-Sep ’22).

‘Services’ was the leading Sector with 15% share of News Genre Ad Volumes

The Services and Food & Beverages sectors maintained their 1st and 2nd positions during Jul-Sep ’23 compared to Apr-Jun ’23.

‘Banking/Finance/Investment’ emerged as the sole new entrant in the top 10 list of sectors during Jul-Sep ’23 compared to Apr-Jun ’23.

The top 10 sectors collectively contributed to an 80% share of ad volumes during Jul-Sep ’23.

‘Cars’ led the News Genre Categories Jul-Sept’23

During Jul-Sep ’23, Cars claimed the 1st position with a 5% share of ad volumes, compared to its 3rd position in Apr-Jun ’23.

Toilet Soaps, Corporate/Brand Image, and Tooth Pastes entered the top 10 Categories list during Jul-Sep ’23, surpassing their positions in Apr-Jun ’23.

The top 10 categories collectively accounted for a 27% share of ad volumes in Jul-Sep ’23.

Retail Outlets-Jewellers slipped to the 2nd position in Jul-Sep ’23, down from its 1st position in Apr-Jun ’23.

Leading Advertisers NEWS Genre: Reckitt Benckiser (India) was the leading Advertiser during Q’1, Q’2 & Q’3 of 2023

Reckitt Benckiser (India) secured the leading position in Jul-Sep ’23 with a 7% share of ad volumes. Additionally, Hindustan Unilever, SBS Biotech, and Amazon Online India maintained their 2nd, 6th, and 10th positions, respectively, during Jul-Sep ’23 compared to Apr-Jun ’23.

The top 10 advertisers collectively accounted for a 24% share of ad volumes in Jul-Sep ’23.

Life Insurance Corporation of India was the sole new entrant in the top 10 advertisers list during Jul-Sep ’23 compared to Apr-Jun ’23.

‘Lalithaa Jewellery’ was the leading brand on News Genre during Jul-Sept’23

In Jul-Sep ’23, over 4.5K brands were featured in Television Advertising for the News Genre. Dettol Toilet Soaps, Policybazaar.Com, and LIC-Corporate emerged as new entrants in the top 10 brand list during Jul-Sep ’23, compared to Apr-Jun ’23.

Lalithaa Jewellery maintained its 1st position in Jul-Sep ’23, retaining its status from Apr-Jun ’23. Among the top 10 brands, three belonged to Reckitt Benckiser (India) in Jul-Sep ’23.

Top Growing Categories : 180+ Categories registered Positive Growth

The ‘Mortgage Loans’ category witnessed the highest increase in ad secondages, with a growth of 55% in Television Advertising for the News Genre.

In terms of growth percentage among the top 10 categories, Cellular Phones-Smart Phones experienced the highest growth, reaching 5 times the previous figures during Jul-Sep ’23.

Top 5 Channel Subgenres in NEWS: Jul-Sept’23

In Jul-Sep ’23, ‘Hindi News’ emerged as the leading Subgenre for advertising on the News Genre, commanding a 17% share of ad volumes.

The top 5 Channel Subgenres collectively represented 54% of the ad volumes during Jul-Sep ’23.
