Taylor Swift has issued an update, canceling her show in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
She claimed having already arrived at the stadium’s dressing room, where the decision had to be made quickly after keeping the city’s dangerously high temperature in mind.
“The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first,” she wrote on her Instagram account.
Yesterday, a young Brazilian fan called Ana Clara Benevides died during the singer’s concert due to a cardiac arrest caused by Rio’s highest-ever temperature of 138.74 degrees Fahrenheit.
Several other fans were ill as a result of the poor airflow, prompting Taylor to pause her performance and request that her team distribute water bottles.
She later expressed her condolences for her fan’s death on social media, writing, “I’m not going to able to speak about this from the stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”
The artist’s decision to postpone her current jam session demonstrates her care for the tiredness of her staff and fans.
