Taylor Swift’s The Eras World Tour Prompts Renaming of Houston Stadium

This weekend, Taylor Swift’s The Eras tour will be at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. To celebrate, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo gave the stadium a new name that was inspired by Swift.

Hidalgo said on Wednesday, April 19, that during the weekend, the stadium would be called “NRG Stadium (Taylor’s Version)” in honor of the pop star. Chron says that to make things even more fun, banners with the temporary name will be hung at the north and south exits of the stadium.

“We know all too well that other areas have done huge things. They’ve lit up the town; they’ve renamed streets, they’ve even made you mayor for a day. But we’re going to something even better. I know if I did any of that, folks would say that I am the man.” Hidalgo said in a Twitter video message, referring to a few of Swift’s songs.

“With the name change, I know it’ll never go out of style,” she said. “Plus, it’s not only the young that enjoy your music. I hope your stay is beyond your wildest dreams, and for everyone in Harris County, let’s get ready for it!”

For three consecutive nights, starting this Friday (April 21) and continuing on Saturday (April 22) and Sunday (April 23), Taylor Swift will perform at NRG Stadium (Taylor’s Version). The first two acts are Beabadoobee and Gracie Abrams.

A fan from Texas called Karen Vladeck hopes to see the show. She wrote a pun-filled letter to her daughter’s first-grade teacher asking for her to be let out of school so she could go see The Eras tour in Houston. Vladeck says that the teacher just replied in all capital letters, “THIS MADE MY ENTIRE DAY.”
