Team tennis: Scarsdale and Bronxville extend Section 1’s dominance at state championships


FLUSHING − The NYSPHSAA team championship has only been in existence for three years. Every year, Section 1 has won the title.

Bronxville and Scarsdale kept the streak alive on Friday afternoon at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Broncos won the Division 2 title for the first time in program history, beating Section 8’s Cold Spring Harbor by the score of 3-2.

Section 1 singles champion Victoria McEnroe, Hannah Shammas, and the doubles team of Rose Woolery and Astrid Pulkkinen won their respective matches to seal the win.

Scarsdale made it three-straight Division 1 team championships by sweeping Section 8’s Syosset by the score of 7-0.

To advance to the finals, Scarsdale defeated Section 6’s Williamsville East. Bronxville swept Section 3’s Oneida 5-0.
