Teen Crashes Stolen Car During Struggle With Victim In Camden Co.: Police

WINSLOW TOWNSHIP, NJ — A person entered their moving car while a thief tried to drive away, officials said. Their ensuing struggle resulted in multiple collisions and the suspect’s attempted escape on foot Monday morning in Winslow Township, according to police.

The victim left his vehicle running while he went into Jersey Bagel just before 11 a.m., authorities said. While he was inside the Sicklerville Road convenience store, a teen got in the car and began driving away, according to law enforcement.

Then, the victim entered his vehicle through the passenger-side door while it was still moving, police said. The ensuing struggle caused the car to crash into another vehicle on the roadway — in front of the parking lot entrance — according to law enforcement.

A Winslow Township officer happened to be nearby and called in additional law enforcement to canvass the area. As K-9 teams searched, another local officer saw the suspect running through the Kenwood Condominium complex, police said. That’s where the suspect was taken into custody after the victim and video evidence helped identify him.

The teen was charged and taken to the Camden County Juvenile Detention Center.

K-9 personnel from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and Voorhees Police Department assisted in the suspect’s capture.
