Teenager Killed as Car Crashes into Trees on Eastex Freeway in Houston, Driver Survives

A teenage boy lost his life in a high-speed car accident in Houston yesterday morning, police said. According to a statement released by the Houston Police Department, the 17-year-old, whose name has not been released, was killed when a black Honda Accord crashed on the Eastex Freeway around 11:20 a.m.

The young man was riding as a passenger in the vehicle, which reportedly was hurtling north at dangerous velocities. HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Patterson and Officer J. Leon report that the 23-year-old male driver of the Honda was recklessly darting through traffic when he collided with a black Chevrolet Tahoe. The force of the collision sent the Honda off the road where it slammed into trees on the grassy median.

The impact was so severe that the teenage passenger was ejected from the car. Despite the arrival of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is pending to confirm the victim’s identity.

Unexpectedly, the occupants of the Chevrolet Tahoe involved in the incident walked away without injury. The driver of an Accord, who survived the incident with non-critical injuries, was taken to an area hospital. Post-accident investigations by authorities found that he was not impaired at the time of the crash.

While this tragic event has raised many questions, no charges have been filed as of yet. Police have indicated that their investigation into the causes and circumstances of the crash is still ongoing.
