Even though the Oscars have put a cap on awards season, it’s never too soon to get ready to do the whole thing all over again.
The Television Academy is gearing up to hold the Primtime Emmys later this fall. This comes via Variety who also reports there have been a series of For Your Consideration events held for potential nominees including HBO’s “House of the Dragon” and Hulu’s “Paradise – among others.
Where and When to Watch the 2025 Emmys
In conjunction with broadcaster CBS, the Academy announced the 77th telecast will be on Sunday, September 14 at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT. The location will be downtown Los Angeles at the Peacock Theater which held the show’s 76th iteration.
Nominations for the 77th Emmys are set to be announced on Tuesday, July 15 at 8:30 AM.
Viewers will be able to watch live on CBS through regular means as well as live on Paramount+ for subscribers through the streamer. Like most award shows in the streaming era, the broadcast will be available on demand the next day for all Paramount+ subscribers.
Although actors and father/son team Eugene and Dan Levey hosted the 76th show, no host has been named for the upcoming show.
Hosts in the past decade have included Anthony Anderson and Kenan Thompson as well Oscar favorite Jimmy Kimmel.
What Happens Leading Up to the Awards
Submissions for the 2025 award show opened in late February. The eligibility period is from June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025. Voting begins in June and ends around late August.
A week prior to the Emmys will be the Creative Arts Emmy Awards and Governors Gala. This is a two night event where several smaller Emmy awards are handed out. During the occasion, the technical and creative achievements of shows take the stage. Awards surrounding animation, hairstyling, casting and more are recognized. Game shows, reality and other non-fiction shows, and variety specials get their time to shine on those nights. Commercials, effects and general production are also awarded.
Additionally, there is also a separate award show held a few weeks later dubbed the Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy Awards.
The Primetime Emmys are under the same umbrellas as other Emmy based events the Television Academy holds including awards for Daytime; Sports; Children’s and Family; International; News and Documentary; and Regional.
